Friday Food : Deviled Spider Eggs

Here is another attempt at a cute Halloween idea where the professionals do it better than me. Better than I? Eh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s their years of experience. Maybe it’s their lighting and camera. At any rate, I still found this a super fun and quick way to make a simple snack spooky. Those of you with kids or who are kids at heart may get a kick out of them. Besides, cooking and can about fun and not looks, right?

Deviled Spider Eggs

What you will need:

Basically make a set of deviled eggs whichever way you know best. If you don’t know best try this:

  • 6 eggs, boiled and peeled
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup black olives


  1. Make sure your boiled eggs are peeled and sliced in half lengthwise
  2. Place the cooked yolks in a mixing bowl
  3. Combine yolks, mayo, vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper and blend until creamy
  4. Spoon the mix back into the egg halves or spoon the mix into a plastic bag, cut the tip and pipe the mix into the egg halves
  5. Take your black olives and if they are not already sliced, cut them in half. If they are sliced find the pieces with the lowest gap in the middle. Place this piece in the middle of the yolk mix, this will be “the body”
  6. Using additional pieces of olive, cut your slices into 1/2 or 1/3 or 1/4 depending on the size of your olive. Place 8 of the slices around “the body”, these are your spider “legs”
  7. Serve and enjoy
