Friday Food : Hamburger Cupcakes and Fries

I know this is a hugely popular treat because I saw a few of them posted to Facebook this weekend as Father’s Day treats. I think they are great for any occasion you may find yourself attending or hosting a picnic or BBQ. In case you are in a crowd of people where you have not seen these before, allow me to share the magic which are brownies + cupcakes + sugar cookies = hamburgers and fries! I know Bakerella has great pictures and instructions on full assembly, but not sure if she is the original source of not.

What you will meed:

  • 1 box box brownie mix
  • 1 box cake mix (I used yellow)
  • 1 bag sugar cookie mix (I used Betty Crocker “snack size”)
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 and 1/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup oil and 1/3 cup oil (about 1 cup total)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon flour (+ more for dusting your counter)
  • 1 14-16 oz container of frosting
  • Food coloring (red, green, yellow)
  • Sugar for dusting the “fries”

Follow the box directions then if you’re interested in the specifics of assembly head over to Bakerella.

Maybe this meal should be called “I hate my dentist and my pants”.

As you can see trying to make a “deluxe” or “Big Mac” style burger doesn’t work as well. (Look at the picture above and at the burger on the right side edge).

I couldn’t believe how wonderfully these came out and how easy they were to make too! Now I don’t know what to do with them all! LOL.

At this risk of pointing out a fault in the cooking, I would suggest using cupcake papers when baking to prevent any burning/darkening of your “bun” edges.

In a pinch the top of a McCormick spice container works lovely as a circle cutter for your brownies.

What are your favorite ways to modify cupcakes? Making any other special ‘treats’ this summer?
