I made a promise to myself at the start of this year. If I were luckily enough to get strong and healthy and be able to run again, I would seek out events I really wanted to be a part of and I knew from my experiences in 2012 with Go Dirty Girl and the Color Run, those events would be themed 5Ks. In 2013, the events keep rolling in and I keep getting excited! Not too long ago I joined up with friends and family for the new Recovery Challenge 5K, in the fall I’ll be heading to Columbus for the Pretty Muddy 5K, and next month I am headed to Columbus for the fabulous event of the Drenched 5K!
The Drenched 5K is all about bringing back memories of summer fun. Participants will run or walk from dry to drenched through “hot zones” and drenched zones which may include mist tunnels, sprinkler minefields, spectator “sniper” zones, bubbles, fire hoses, and a 75 foot slip n slide (optional) through the finish line. Runners and walkers are encourage to form teams, don crazy costumes, and bring their biggest water guns for a little camaraderie and competition against other teams. I know when I did the Recovery Challenge the “slip n slide” near the end was the best part. It felt amazing on an unusually warm spring Ohio day and I can only IMAGINE how an entire course of water will feel on a HOT July day for Ohio.
For those not interested in building up a sweat but who want to get in on the fun, Drenched has a free spectator zone where they get to drench the runners any way possible! Spectators may also buy a Festival Pass which includes a tee, packet of 25 water balloons, sunglasses, one cold beverage, and access to the “water sniper zone” and after party for only $20 online and $30 day of. Drenched is all about families getting active so kids 5 and under run FREE and kids 12 and under receive discounted entries! Oh, and there’s also the option to volunteer.
And at the finish? They stage the best summer party in town! The world’s biggest water balloon fight, music, drinks and dancing. I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s been way too long since I was involved in a good water balloon fight. Maybe I’ll get some grenade water balloons and fill them to the point of small watermelons. Don’t pretend you didn’t do the same thing. Adventure-seekers can add a 3-story freefall to their itinerary: US AIRBAG will be on-location at each 2013 Run Drenched event with a 50×50 stunt inflatable landing zone. When I saw this I was hooked. To be perfectly honest, I think I’m going for this feature more than anything else that weekend and as afraid of heights as I am, I plan to leap and scream and love it!

I’ve created a Facebook event to help those of us who are going to Columbus coordinate with each other. If you register under the team “ROJ Running” they can track it and if enough of us sign up together we can win special custom made team shirts…wouldn’t that be awesome? Plus it’s $5 cheaper to be on a team than to be solo.
Want to try your luck at winning an entry? Then you’ve come to the right part of the post, because as I mentioned above I am doing that very thing. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me your favorite way to play in the water over summer. Are you a pool person, water guns, water balloon, water slides or even a good old fashioned sprinkler person? Or just leave any comment!
Giveaway ends on Sunday the 16th. I’ll announce the winner Monday, chosen via Random.org. Good Luck!
