A few weeks back I came across a race via Active.com. Once in a while I’ll search for events in my area, when I’m not committed to too many things already. I saw the name “Cupid’s Undie Run” and knew right away this was something good. I stumbled upon the “Underwear Affair” a race for cancers “down there” a while back, but it is held in Canada. Sadly this is too much of a drive for me. Cupid’s seemed like a great alternative and this year it will be held in Cleveland! An hour drive and no need for a passport? Yes, please!
As you can see, the race benefits the Children’s Tumor Foundation. I can’t say I’m familiar with the group, but I can say any time a race prominently benefits something, especially when it comes to children, my heart simply melts.
One of the hottest trends in race events seems to be theme races. Mud runs, obstacle courses, foam bursts, and the like, where different cities each take part in a similar event city after city. Another version is like the Commitment Day 5K I did on New Years, where the same event takes place on the same day in various cities across the nation. Personally, I like this second kind more, because there is something I find special while taking part in an event, where I can stop and realize hundreds of miles away a friend is doing the exact same thing in that exact same moment. It connects us.
Cupid’s Undie Run is one of those nation connecting events. Across the land on February 9th, 2013, people from DC, NYC, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Cincinnati, LA, San Francisco Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Orlando, Minneapolis, Philly, and Detroit will line up in their underwear and do a “mile-ish” fun run in support of the Children’s Tumor Foundation and let’s be honest, just to be silly and have a good time.
For the first time ever, Cleveland is also hosting a Cupid’s Undie Run! Only ours will be on February 16th, 2013. Don’t worry locals, St Louis is also on the 16th, so we’re not totally out of the loop. The place? The Southside in Tremont. Festivities start at noon, then strip down for the Undie Run at 2pm, have fun and come back for post-race festivities and awards. Currently the price is only $25, but it is set to increase very soon.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST BE 21 TO TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF ALCOHOL. You must bring ID. No ID, no entry, no exceptions.
How else can you support the Children’s Tumor Foundation? Well, participants can fundraise as an individual or join a team, with the chance to win pries! What prizes? How about custom undies, VIP Open Bar, embroidered bathrobes, engraved iPod Nanos… and tons of other cool stuff. Besides, with Facebook and Twitter, fundraising is easier than ever! Remember this does not include your registration fee.
If you would like to donate to my run, here is my personal URL (I haven’t done much with the page…yet) http://hopecur.com/ROJRunning
I’ll admit I was a tad nervous about wearing my undies in public. Then I looked over some media from last year and saw a lot of people wore their bras and panties over a t-shirt and shorts. If I don’t find some magical self confidence before the big event, there’s a 99% chance I’ll be going with that style. Still, I’m also the girl who was bummed she missed Run Woodstock because I wanted to run naked, so you never know with me!
Here’s all the social media 411. I do hope so see some of you out there in Cleveland and to hear all about it from the other cities.
