Friday Food : Very Cherry Bloody Handcake

I’ll be honest, today isn’t one of my better posts. I saw a few cute ideas online and I tried to recreate it myself. Who has seen the the “Halloween Breakfast” with toast shaped like a hand and then jam to look like blood/guts? Probably a lot of you. Well, I decided I could do the same thing with a pancake! And I probably could, if I found the right batter, the right tools and the right camera.

Instead, I’m sharing with you my two honest attempts, because Friday Food is more than showing off the best of the kitchen, it’s about experimenting and growing together.

Very Cherry Bloody Handcakes

What you will need:

  • 1/2 cup frozen cherries
  • 1/2 cup instant oats
  • 1/2 cup liquid eggs or 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Puree

  1. Blend frozen cherries in a food processor
  2. Heat on stove in small sauce pan on low-medium heat until they bubble and form applesauce-like texture

Pancakes

  1. Spray a large skillet with PAM or other cooking spray
  2. Heat to low-med
  3. Mix the oats, egg, cinnamon, and optional cherries together in a bowl (for smoother pancakes mix all ingredient in a blender or food processor)
  4. Carefully distribute into the skillet, forming the shape of a hand
  5. Use spatula or pancake turner to better shape your creation
  6. Heat until small bubbles begin to form, then flip and heat a few more moments
  7. Serve on a plate with cherry puree

Comments and Photos:

As you can see the smoother pancakes take on a much different look

Hopefully with a little practice or a more traditional pancake batter, the hands will look more legit
