Walking the dog

No it’s not some fancy slang for anything dirty, I really did get to walk my puppy yesterday. Here in NEO it goes from lovely to snowy before you have a moment to think about it. It’s odd to think last Sunday I was walking out of the Tri, not wearing a coat and loving the weather. This Sunday? Mom, Emme and I hurried along the sidewalks and left bundled in coats, scaves and gloves. We “only” did 2.5 miles, but we decided since it was starting to sleet and it HURT it was time to go back. Plus, Emme was wearing her coat, but has no booties, so her tiny paws were stiff with ice and she was starting to slow down, although she wouldn’t admit it if she could. For 4 pounds she’s a trouper.

One thing that popped into my head was how the last time the 3 of us went walking was the day after NYE and I could barely keep up. I was miserable and out of shape. Yes, part of my issue was that for some reason I didn’t wear a bra, but it was more than that one issue. I was pleased to feel so good on the walk yesterday, even if it wasn’t a run and even if I’d like to be faster like Mom…it was still a nice work out.
How has the rest of the week gone? Well – I’m keeping up with living at the gym! Below is what I did for last week:
Mon: 60 minutes of water aerobics. 20 minutes of lap swimming (I do front, back and breast), then off to 60 minutes of total body sculpt (the instructor tells me it’s essentially mid to high level areobics). Speaking of Ellen (instructor for both TBS and WA) she is such a doll to have because she’s nice but also challenges me! She made fun of me for using 3lb weights last week, so this week I walk in and she’s like “You! 12lb bar and sets of 3, 5, and EIGHT pound weights! No excuses!” I was reluctant to believe in myself as much as she did…but I grabbed what she suggested and figured I could always NOT use them during the work out. Well, guess what? I DID IT! I was SO SO pleased, maybe paying for a personal trainer one day would be a good idea. Or who wants me to pay them to basically yell at me when I’m being a slacker?
** Note this was also a holiday for some people. For me, I bought my puppy a little pink monkey and I got my Mom a nice card and a pot of roses. Last week some clients brought candy to the agency but on the real day, you wouldn’t even know it was V-Day. Which was the BEST V-Day at work I’ve ever had! At one point I did laugh though…when I realized Brian’s phone may have given him an alarm for me. Haha. See on one of our first dates he put into his phone to buy me candy hearts for Valentine’s since it’s the one and only thing I ever want! When he did that it freaked me out, because I wasn’t even sure if we’d make to it being a couple let alone be dating or even friends 7 months later. (Sorry!!) Luckily we are still friends, so I did wonder if that alarm went off and if he laughed too. I have to “assume” it didn’t since VDay came and went, and us hanging out came and went…and I didn’t get any candy hearts.
Tues: Went to Toastmasters. It was the club contest for speaking and evaluating. I chose to compete in both sections. I took first place for my speech on hiding your farts in an office chair…Beth would be proud. For the evaluation portion I took 2nd place, but the lady who took 1st can’t compete (she’s training to become a yoga instuctor) so my smiling face will be representing our club for BOTH on March 12th. At first this news was bittersweet because I thought I would miss the St. Malachi 5-miler. Then I was happy because speaking is at 1PM. Now I just don’t know what to do because the race was moved to 9:45 am. Not sure I can cut it that close…
Wed: Another 60 minutes of water areobics, 20 minutes of lap swimming and 60 minutes of Zumba! I love the Zumba class at the rec center this time around. In the past the classes I took were always SO CROWDED and it felt like a bad musical where everyone knew the words and steps but me! This section is less crowded so I have room to play and also, people don’t seem as stuck up and perfectionist about the process. The instructor uses both traditional Zumba songs and current pop music. I love the variety and it makes me feel like I could do the moves on my own to other music or make things up as I go along.
Thurs: This was the champion day of me really becoming active again. See, I took a CPR class Thursday night…so I was unable to go to the gym for my spin class. Instead, since I didn’t have a client until 9, I got up EARLY, that’s right EARLY and went to a morning spinning and abs class. Mind you I did run 5 minutes late…but still only 5 minutes, and was on the bike and spinning by 7:05. I looked at the clock and thought…How is it that normally I’m leaving for work right now and instead of sitting on a bike sweating so horribly and loving it? The class is designed to be 45 minutes of spin and 15 minutes of abs. I pulled off 40 minutes of spinning, and I managed to keep up with this instructor too! She’s more perky than the afternoon lady. Then she cut the class short for whatever reason so we did 10 minutes of abs. Yes I was bummed but really I won’t die from 5 minutes. For those wondering…I passed the CPR class – another 2 years of Adult, Child and Infant CPR along with Adult AED. I already had First Aid from last year.
Fri: Not too much happened here…tried to get up early again, but my asthma was acting up and my chest hurt rather badly. I managed to get 20 minutes on the elliptical before work, then I had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE day and went to the speech competition right from work. Luckily I didn’t get called to any rounds until nearly 9pm. So I had the chance to talk and hang out and calm down.
Sat: Bright and early in the morning I arrived at the school. At some point I judged 2 rounds of Lincoln Douglas debate…but the rest of the day I ate the free food and played bananagrams. We had a HUGE group of people playing, so it was amazingly fun. We had people from other sections of the Judges’ Lounge coming over to watch us and join in. We’re the best! I was there from 7:30 to 5:00. (oy!) The sister person was there too. For lunch we had baked potatoes, I walked mine over to the table and one of the ladies was like “Umm what did you put on your potatoe?” I told her there was a bar of various topping options…but I ignored the word options and instead took it as a personal challenge. What can I say? I like food, it’s why I need to work out. Sat night I watched the movie Case 39. It was OK. Really lame/weird ending…but the main film had good parts to it.
BTW according to the Tools to Keep You Active site…this is my current view from the trail…where are you?

So that was my long long week! Thanks for reading up on me and I hope things are going well for everyone else too. I leave you with a funny email that was sent to me earlier this week.

Friendship among Women:
A woman didn’t come home one night. The next morningshe told her husband that she had slept over at afriend’s house. The man called his wife’s 10 bestfriends. None of them knew anything about it.
