And the thunder rolls

The thunder rolls
And the lightnin’ strikes.
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night

I know I’ve been terrible with graphs lately, but really, how many people care too much about them except for when you’re doing something special? Ohh a hill? Yea I’ve seen ’em before, I know what they are….so what? (sigh) or maybe it’s because I’m being lazy? Nope, it’s not that.

We all know all I managed to do last weekend was the BBQ ride. Monday I had high hopes of getting that 10 miles in…and all I know is it reminds me of the Airplanes song, Eminem’s part

cuz he never risked shit he hopes and he wished it but it didn’t fall in his lap

So I need to do some serious remotivating here! Regardless this hasn’t been a bad week for me. On the exercise front I managed to do an hour on the treadmill after my lovely Mom fixed it for me. So because I normally run 5 miles in an hour BUT had the incline up to all holy heaven I bet I managed maybe 4? I was watching Gossip Girl at the same time. Wow that show has gotten nuts. Tuesday I didn’t do any work out. Wed I went to do a group run in the park. We arrived (myself and Gale) and knew it was going to rain “later” well later didn’t get the memo and all of sudden as we’re about to cross the road we hear the weather sirens going off. Of course I’m about to crap my pants because I am convinced I will die in a tornado and everyone around me is teasing me and singing the “do-da-do-da-do-do” from the wizard of OZ. Grrrr. Luckily we did not die int he storm and I lived to see another trail.

Thursday we went out with CRTR and I was all determined to do the WHOLE route so help me god! Well I did! Somehow Gale did more than I did, even though I was following people and they claim they didn’t cut the course. Grrr. 4.24 miles in under an hour on the crazy trail! I cut a minute per mile off my time from two weeks ago when I went out with them. And I was not the last one in! I ran in with a few other guys. This course was fun, despite all the hills and rocks and trees. Again I crossed a river and ran through shrubbery taller than myself. At one point I leapt over a fallen tree which was a bad idea because the leg I pulled up in my leap got a huge charlie horse in the calf. Boooo. Still I felt bad ass. At the end of the race Gale was so kind as to point out I was wearing my shirt inside out. WHat?? I’m talented.

After the run we all went to Panini’s where we watched some karate competition and the Indians VS NY game. At one point the catcher went down HARD (like around the 8th inning I want to say) and none of us could figure out why and the replays weren’t helping. I tried to get MR B to tell me, but he didn’t answer ) : He claims his phone was dead..I think he was ignoring me since he was out at the game. Luckily Tami’s son was also at the game so Tami was able to tell me how the pitcher threw a different ball than what the catcher signaled so the ball slammed into his leg/knees! Tami’s son is a catcher so he knows how much that can hurt. OUCH! We all had way too much fun making fun of the Shake Weight. Have you seen this thing?

I mean should any man be making that motion, all sweaty and saying “oh yeah that’s it”. Hmmmm.

We also talked about the pros and cons of having your significant other race with you. Gale asked if Mr B would be joining us anymore and I told her that’s kind of a sore subject. Mr B does not race to be social, he runs to serve a purpose and while I completely respect that I won’t pretend I’m not bummed about it. I mean when you’re single you imagine what the ideal date would be like…and I really wanted someone who would run with me. I get jealous of the couples and their sweaty salty kisses at the end. I want that! BUT…and here is the BUT because I am not trying to guilt him. It is not the most important thing. I run for ME and when my friends are there it makes it better, but when I first started to run I didn’t want my dates around because it was MY personal time away from them. And really he asks and he cares and he knows what goes into it, so what’s the problem? Really there isn’t one, I’m just bummed he can’t be a part of it as much as I would have liked him to be. Can I help it? He’s like my own special new toy and I wanna show him off to everyone. WOW how bad did that sound? Haha.

Tonight Gale and I did the Sunset Relay 6K (each person does 3K on a cross country course). I did the race with Pete last year. I thought I ran faster this year (1.88 in 20:39 per Garmin) but I don’t know for sure since their site is being all ghetto and not displaying past results currently. I worse one of my Team Marathon tops…pictures to follow in a later post. I didn’t like it…kept riding up in the front. After the run I felt very very ill and since Gale needed to leave anyway we called it a night. I’m home now and feeling much better. I do plan to read and go to sleep here soon.

No plans with B this weekend…he’s having boy time. I am really excited though because Gale and I are volunteering with a wonderful group of ladies, Grunt Girl Racing and we will be at mile 80 of the 100 mile Burning River race. Should be quite the experience! Need to charge my camera. It’s an over night thing too, so oooooh atmosphere! Sunday we might go to the fair, I should buy Emme a duck…haha and then to dinner. We being my Mom and younger sister. Nothing too fancy, but that’s OK with me I just wanna chill and read and tan and whatever. Next weekend is either the Black Squirrel Tri with Tom or another OC training run.

Have a safe and happy weekend all!

BBQ ride & Let’s Go Tribe!

Last week I really feel like I did good things for my physical and emotional health. Too bad I went out every night, which I don’t like to do too often. Tuesday I went to Toastmasters, and heard amazing speeches from the club. I like the nights where I don’t have a job, I can just sit back and actually relax with what is going on. The funny things was, earlier that day I had a mishap with Mr B not knowing what a slip is….I spoke about it at table topics and ended up winning! How cool.

Wednesday I went to the brick up in Berea Falls again and actually did the whole thing! Pati and I did the 12ish mile loop…when I discovered I once again lost the computer chip on my bike (probably when I crashed last week) and can’t tell MPH anymore. I will have to start carrying Garmin with me. After the ride we went out onto the trails…I was so tired, but I had a TERRIBLE day at work and needed the release. So we ran for 15 minutes before turning around on the trail and heading back.

Thursday I was supposed to go do another trail run with CRTR…I did not. See, my oldest running friend told me he was moving away (which I knew) but it turns out he leaves the 27th and I was thinking he was here until the end of August! Needless to say there was a change in plans and I ended up over at his place. We had homemade mac & cheese with ham and peas and asparagus. We also made Xmas cookies…I bought him a kit at Xmas time and we never got around to using it! Yikes! So we had fun. Oh and he gave me a belated gift. Personalized stationary, post-its and a note pad with giraffes and on name. So thoughtful.

Friday night I was supposed to go and do a 5K with Tom up his way. However, it turns out there were massive storms coming through the area and Tom didn’t want to do the race with his family coming to town. OK then. I spent the night at home instead, just relaxing and getting things done around the house. Started cleaning the turtles aquarium, finish that on Sat. Mom gave me a toothbrush to use, the algae was so bad! I’m sorry turtles! Now they’re lovely though and oh so happy! We had huge storms that night and Emme came in to cuddle with me.

BBQ Ride

Sat I woke bright and early and headed out the door to the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Cleveland. Tom arrived late, but so did the main people for check-in so it’s all good. It was insanely hot that morning and I was not looking forward to the ride to be totally honest. Since my bike computer is gone I remembered to grab my Garmin before heading out the door. We started around 930 and lunch was to be served at 1130. Tom needed to get home so we agreed to ride about an hour out and then an hour back. Well, I forgot Tom is a much faster casual rider than I am. And I didn’t want to get too exhausted since I had some errands to run and then was going to an Indians game that night. I was also supposed to do a 10 mile run on Sunday. So I spent the first hour pretty much just being in a bad mood. It was long and slow and boring to be totally on my own, and hot. Also, it makes it worse when you hear everyone else talking to each other and you’re alone. So I made it an hour, which was about 11.5 miles. I turned around and headed back. Along the way I saw some cool things, like snakes and frogs and turtles. Part of the ride was along the Towpath section we ran the new Towpath 10 & 10 from earlier this year. For part of the ride back a gentleman who is highly involved with STOMP rode with me…so I loved the company.

After the ride we enjoyed a nice picnic lunch for a moment. And I was terrified that a wooly bear climbed on me! See when I was younger I was terribly allergic to them…I would break out in horrid hives. I spent the whole day and night worried I was going to look at myself in the mirror and see giant red itchy dots all over my body.

Sat afternoon I went on a mission and bought orangeade for me and Mr B…placed it in a cooler with ice and water. Drove them an hour to his house, only to find he had just brushed his teeth so he couldn’t drink it! Oh man! We went out the door and went to the Indians game. They were playing the Tampa Bay Rays and I guess this was the first time since like 1994 or something that they’ve beaten us at home. Bummer. The tickets we had were fantastic! 4th row. I learned how Choo is an amazing player. The theme for the game was Christmas in July and an actor from A Christmas Story was there. In the 9th inning they had “trip dog dare” and gave different people in the big screen dares to do. I need to learn what I look like because one couple had “kiss the person next to you” and I thought to myself (oh no, what if you don’t like the person next to you) and B says to me “kiss me” or something like that and I was like “why” and he’s like “That’s us on the screen!” Sure enough it was us! I was so excited…but I was unsure of the proper level of PDA so I just gave him a quick kiss.

Oh and here is our pic with Santa.

Today I just spend the day being’s starting to kick in that soon enough I’ll be in school again and will HAVE to do stuff on Sundays. I’m going over to Alannah’s for some True Blood. Although it was cooler today and the humidity broke I didn’t go running. Boo. I shall run tomorrow night. I also need to finish my speech for Toastmaster’s Tuesday night.

Hope everyone else was fun and fit this week! Let’s see what we can all accomplish in the next week.

Taming of the Shrew & Sunburns

Another fun filled weekend over here in ROJ.

Friday I dropped Emme off at Aunt Becky’s for a playdate with Howard Elizabeth. Her apartment is very cute actually. After a day of working I went to pick her up and they were almost tuckered out. Luckily she had enough spunk to head over to Tami’s so her daughter could groom her for me. She was nervous around Sadie the BIG FAT chocolate lab! Haha. At the end she was very pretty even if everyone thought she looked like Gizmo. I get it but honestly I’ve never seen Gremlins so not too sure. Yes, I know it’s so sort of crazy thing I have not seen that movie…remember I also have never seen The Goonies.

Sat I woke at 8 and could not get back to sleep for the life of me! So I went outside with the book Mr B lent me and got some sun. Too much sun actually! Stupid Ender’s Game being all interesting. I was nice and red. In fact I had a book shaped tan line on my thigh. Haha. I took a quick nap and got ready to go hang out with him.

We went to eat at Olive Garden and it was delicious and fun. Even if he did not let me color him a picture for his fridge. Then we went down to Akron to see my friend Alannah in The Taming of the Shrew at Stan Hywet Hall. I went to see her in Romero & Juliet last year and it was lovely. This year was no different and I really enjoyed showing Mr B some of the grounds. We are planning to go back some time for a tour. I knew nothing of this play other than 10 Things I Hate About You was based on it, and that I knew thanks to Abby. I like to be cultured though, so I went to see it…and to be a supportive friend. Well, thanks to my addiction to chapstick and my crazy need to be in possession of water at all times….and lack of knowing how to give directions…we ran late and missed some of her pre-show performance. Oh no! She forgave me though, because she is a sweetie.

After the play we just went back to his house and hung out and went to sleep. Sunday morning was quite the ordeal though. I really thought I was going to kill him. An alarm goes off at 8 (I was already awake) and he hits snooze. Another alarm 2 mins later…snooze…another alarm 2 mins later…snooze. This goes on for 5 alarms. Me each time trying to get him to wake up and get out of bed! Sheesh! Well I gave up and went to go get dressed. When I came back…ta-da he was dressed! I was very pleased. So we finished getting ready and out the door we went. He is NOT fun without his coffee! Haha. We got to the race walked around and talked to Gale. Now here is the sad part of the pre-race routine. I went to the potty room and umm well there was no toilet paper…and umm…well yeah…we will let you conclude the rest. So there I am sneaking out the door, shorts around my ankles, ass hanging out for the world to see, trying to scoot over into the next stall where thankfully there was toliet paper. NOT FUNNY. Grrrr.

The run itself was a decent course. At times I cursed myself for agreeing to a race so late in the morning…oh god the heat!!! But I made mile 1 in 10:07 and I made mile 2…well we won’t talk about that, it was just under 11:00 (ouch). I wore my Team Marathon clothing so that made me feel like I needed to really push myself! I finished in under 32 minutes, but the course was a tad short. The results say I took 4th in my age group though! So I was excited to see some good news. We stayed for the awards…which were given in combined genders! Yikes! And Mr B did not like this…he says I am too social at races. Booo.

After the run we went to McDonald’s where I think he would have eaten any and all breakfast food given the choice. We watched Dr Who at his place…I’ve never seen that show and liked it! Then watched other random TV and took a nap.

All in all it was a very wonderful weekend! Most importantly I have been running or biking and look forward to keeping it up.

This week I plan to do the full brick on Wed. (15 mile ride 4-5 mile run). Thursday is trail run (maybe) Friday is 5K at night. Sat is 20-30 mile bike ride. Sunday is….sleeping. Sorry but it is! I’d like to go swimming…but only for fun not or laps.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend too!
