Jack-O-Lantern 5k

log

I’m in the red between the other red and the purple.

There isn’t much to share about this one. It’s my favorite race of the whole year, I forgot to turn my Garmin on until almost 90 seconds into it, but really I just wanted to see if I could show you the HILLS on this sucker. My times each year? Approximately

2007 35:30
2008 33:30
2009 32:00

Yeah 32 when I’ve been doing 29:xx lately! Yikes. I almost puked I almost crapped myself (sexy) and in general my body was bei ng mean to me. BUT I had fun!

Afterward I go t ready for my friend’s wedding and headed out the door with Tom . The rest of the day and night was amazing amounts of fun.

Towpath Half Marathon 2009Yeah so here’s a lil suggestion…don’t try to run 13.1 miles on no sleep. I stayed out until 2AM Sat night, I was up @ 5:45 Sunday. Yum. Luckily I don’t drink or this would have been even less pretty. I tossed everything including shoes into a bad put on my clothes and walked about the door to meet my friend. I did grab a coffee and it was wonderful and warm! I met her at the finish parking lot around 6:45 and we drove over to where the half was starting. They made us park in this really weird area which was about a 15-20 minute walk from the starting line! We were punished for being early I think. Gale and I sat in the car and joked around for a while. I started quoting “water water everywhere” and accused her of having an albatross around her neck. We also looked for our “can do attitude” before settling in for the cold journey to the road.

For the first few miles we talked to each other before jumping a side fence around mile 3 for a bathroom. Hence the “stop” on my watch. I had every intention of doing my run whatever but then at each mile walk to 12 to pace myself….and I didn’t. I was feeling so good in my 10:30ish pace I just went with it and we talked and had fun. We parted around mile 6 and I had to keep going. I ran into a woman around mile 8ish and we talked for a while. Her name was Jenn and it was her first half. She was SUPER nice and since my ipod died it was great to run with her. But then right before 10 I started having horrid chest pain and had to back off and lost her. I felt like I was having a heart attack and I lost all feeling in both of my arms and they started to tingle and I was really scared. I held them above my head to open my chest and did some deep breathing. I felt a little better an ran some more. Gale caught up with me and we walk/ran a lil I told her about my pain and we thought maybe it was all the salt I lost and lack of sleep and food and my low blood pressure and intolerance to the caffeine I ate. WOW so many bad things! So I drank some heed (BTW I LIKE that stuff NOT heavy at all) and I felt A LOT better. I ran the last mile (although it felt longer and I wasn’t going too fast). I finished in 2:40:xx and since I went .1 extra miles I’m ok with this time..I was trying to go slower to be ready for Niagara, but I dunno if I’ll ever be “ready” at this point. It’s way too real. I’ll have pictures later this week when they’re posted.

Afterward I try to get in a hot tub but it was more like a steam cooker and couldn’t stand it ) ; We began to walk to the car and I realized my genius self left my keys in the other car! So we took the bus which luckily arrived just as we did. it as a PARTY bus with tables inside! I’ve never seen such a thing…it was cold though ) ; All in all it was a good race…very pretty multicolored medals too. Which I’ll post when I post the others…sorry this is so brief…but I wanna get it up. I have midterms and a puppy to graduate from obedience school tonight!

  1. It's great you had improvement year after year!

And a half marathon on what? Less than 3 hours of sleep??? Plus, all those other things. Glad you finished!
